About this session:
Finding Second Circle: Aligning Posture, Breath, and Speech for Presence and Power in Every Moment
Even the savviest of facilitators sometimes shrink from opportunities for connection or drive others away with unintentional intimidation. Neither tendency serves the client—or the facilitator.
Based on the work of legendary British voice acting coach Patsy Rodenburg, Ted will help us engage in safe and playful movement, breathing, and speaking exercises that teach us how to inhabit “Second Circle,” a physical and attitudinal stance that generates:
• resilient confidence • creative power • authentic connection
Ted will introduce the Second Circle construct and offer a deeper dive into some of its ramifications and applications.
Be forewarned—this session may shift how you move in the world!
About Ted:
Ted DesMaisons has been synthesizing innovative approaches to teaching and learning for over 35 years.
A graduate of Stanford Business and Harvard Divinity Schools, he now teaches a range of courses through the Stanford Medical School and Stanford Continuing Studies program and leads international trainings in Advanced Applied Improvisation.
Earlier in his career, Ted trained with Jon Kabat-Zinn to become a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) instructor and also worked intensively with renowned acting and voice coach Patsy Rodenburg, earning rare recognition as a Patsy Rodenburg Associate (PRA). He has studied, performed, and taught improvisation internationally, including with Patricia Ryan Madson, BATS Improv of San Francisco, and the Loose Moose Theatre of Calgary, Alberta. He has been a contributing member of the Applied Improvisation Network since 2011.
